Anyone Swapped a 4.6 long block for a 3.9?

I have an icreasingly ticking , tired motor and am wondering if this swap is worth considering. I would probably try to find a motor out of a wreck to save some dough instead of a reman.

Range Rover Blues:
I've bought an LSE for parts and it has the later 4.6 lump in it with the '93 LSE front end/pulley anciliaries so they must fit.  IIRC the end float of the camshaft is controlled by a plate on later engines and the chain cover on early one but it's no big issue.

If you find a 4.2 that's another option.

The one problem to get over is that the EFi won't cope with the bigger engine, according to RPi, who are trying to sell the chip, you need a Tornado ECU upgrade at about £300 :shock:

Anyway, the RPi website is a mine of usefull information on the tuning up of the Rvoer V8.

I think I may just freshen and match port the heads , swap lifters and cam ( very mild - i hear there are some that actually liven up the mill while not decreasing mileage or drivability ) , put a chain on and a water pump and go drive places. Instead of spending a bunch of down time with the 4.6. I have been looking for a dead donor and have found nil.
