200tdi hairline cracks in the head???
« on: December 30, 2006, 22:41:16 »
It just isnt my day with these engines - i bought 2 so far for a series conversion and both heads have cracks -

one has cracks between the valves and hairline cracks going out from the injectors/heater plugs
the other just has some small hairline cracks from the heater plugs to the injector hole on nos 2&3 cylinders

does this mean both heads are scrap? if so does anyone know where i can get one for a reasonable price?

thanks

You could try giving these guys a call. I've used them for motorcycle stuff by mail with good results and now I live near them so have visited in person.
I took a crankshaft to them for evaluation earlier this year and was advised by Ken that although there was wear present, there was life left in it before repair was required. For me, that sort of honesty deserves to be rewarded by recommendation.

Hope this helps.

Maybe not terminal ?   Get the heads hot pressure tested , a good engine shop can do this  for you,   A lot of heads (mainly diesel) have cracks in them, but as long as they dont go any where near/into waterways ect they are ok,    Im sure some one will shoot me down in flames shortly, but just my tuppence worth
TD5 with a few Tweaks ;o)
a bit more fuel friendly than the V8

Yup, its true, you often find cracks in diesel heads, that allow the head to be used. Usuzlly as long as they dont head out into the water jacket itll be ok., since you have cracked heads already, it suggests to me that most of the 200's you see on the road will also have cracked heads, and are running just fine(well as fine as landrovers run anyway!!)

Unless of course you are just really unlucky!
Go on....cut me in half........it says SUZUKI all the way thru the middle!!
