Second to that, get good quality ones. I made the mistake of buying cheap from a well known internet parts supplier. Opened them up and the needle rollers fell out of 3 out of 4, no grease in them at all :roll: they looked and felt rubbish as well.
Would have lasted about a week at most  :evil:

With respect to the above advice can I offer a little more as I've just done my first UJs.

Firstly I'd suggest you don't expect the use a hammer to get them back in, use the vice or as I had to a G clamp. Be very, very careful that none of the needle bearings have fallen over and are trapped stopping you from getting the UJ fully home.

The older Haynes manuals are in my experience very helpful while the more modern ones do seem to suggest that doing anything more than undoing a few nuts and bolts is best left to the dealer.

I'd get an older Haynes and see what instructions they offer or there's a Polish site somewhere with the LR manual on it which is very clear about how to do this. Indeed a Google on this will locate some excellent instructions.

I think you may find it best to take it easy on this job if like me you'd not done it before!

apply grease to the bearings to hold them in place whilst you locate the spider.

i recommend buying the more expensive HARDEY SPICER joints, they have a grease nipple on them.
