Should i paint the disco matt black?
« on: December 19, 2006, 21:55:39 »
The red paint on the disco is faded to death and I cant be bothered to keep on top of t cutting or polishing it.

There is a patch on one wing I painted with red primer in a can which is not exactly perfect (althoughbarely noticeable).

I have seen a few matt black defenders which look OK for the price and ease of painting but never a disco.

So come one then, what do you reckon.  If you hadnt already guessed its not exactly a show car, I really dont care how it looks its just an offroad toy.

Yes, do it, it'll be cool.
(When I was thinking of painting mine I had the idea of painting it matt black & letting the kids from the local primary school loose on it with pastels & then laquering it,............but I chickened out.

Perhaps next time

Matt black's a bit dull...  plus of course it will show up every last tree branch scratch.  I think you should go for something more exciting.  Use it as a blank canvas.

What about this for an idea then.

Paint different areas of your landy different colours. Doesnt matter if you use 3 colours on the bonnet for example. THEN paint it matt black and then to make it brilliant go for a drive down a very scratchy byway and the bushes will scrape the black away to reveal multi colour scratches. now that WOULD be cool. A car paint job done by going off roading. Nobody else will ever have that paint job. If you get bored of the look paint it black and go for another play!!

Also if any one keys your landy it will add to the design and you wont care (unless it goes down to the metal of course)

I am sure I did something like this in school but cant think why or exactly how.

the paint i have used leaves a bit of a mottled finnish which means stickers probably wont stick that well, it was done as a quick cover up really, 20 mins to mask up 10 mins to spray. Still unsure about adding the red "A-Team" stripe though!. Off out driving today so will have some muddy ones later if you want

See, now that looks good!  I am just not sure the disco would look as good.  Muddy pics would be good, be interested to see how much of the black comes off if you try and jetwash the mud off!

If you wanted 'mud club' stickers you could ask (nicely  ) for them in reverse and use them like a stencil.  Then spray on using aerosol

Like the multi colour primer idea, my nephews did that at school too, would look well cool

What a great idea.  I'm planning to try my hand at painting my Disco myself come spring.  Who would I ask about getting a few of those stencils?
