Speeding warning alarm on my Disco
« on: October 20, 2004, 20:23:57 »
Can someone please help me before a pull out my little remaining hair.
I have recently brought my first disco,  a 3door basic no frills 1995 Mreg. 300tdi. Manual.
I have dicovered an annoying alarm sound a bit like that of a truck reversing, when i drive over about 73mph.
Can anyone tell me how to locate and disable this alarm or anything about it.
The alarm seems to come from the dash area and gets a little loader when the fuse panel is dropped open onto my legs but apart from this what can u do when driving at 73+ mph.
My cousin has general electronic knowlegde and has spent a few hours trying to trace wires and looking for suspect wiring jobs but with no joy.
HELP ME!

Its the 'excess speed warning' - kicks in at 120kph ~ 75mph
I believe it uses the same sounder as the lights on alarm - to have it disabled is a case of plugging the pc in to it (usually main dealers @ an arm and a leg). Its usually only enabled for foreign motors not UK models tho.

Mine is two-fold - it also interfaces to the BioNAV(TM) and causes voice alerts too

If that is all the alarm unit does, can you locate the wires leading to it and cut one

Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40
