X9 Winch brake location

thought before i call up mr good winch ,   The drum brake on an x9 i presume lives in the motor end of the drum as i stripped one tonight and thats where it was, so i put it back there, all works just wondered if it needs to be in the middle?

Will double check with him but thought someone might know ,

 

I do have another to strip tomorrow or saturday could see where that one is sat .

both the brakes  are a little seized due to abuse by owner lol :-)

found out middle is good but it finds its own spot ,
