engine change how had would it be
littlepow:
Also found in SEAT leon Cupra R, Cupra was 180Bhp, with the Ibiza kicking out 150 Bhp like the VW Golf.
Have seen engine only for £800, but that was a couple of months back.
richard_sephton:
also a 32v 4.6l northstar V8 running near 300bhp will fit with very little work needed    and it only weighs 450lbs and it has been done http://www.cwstuning.com/gallery/coupe-degolf :D all for around £300
FBF:
the obvious answer would be a 1.8 gtiu lump. an amazing engine on so many levels. but you have to take so much from the donor car you may as well buy a real GTi for 500 quid.. (i have a stunner for sale for 600... )
auto:
have a serious think before you spend the dosh! Buying a clean gti may be the answer! Would cost more to swap engines anyway. Maybe vr6 is answer if you want something different - dont forget to put the strengthening in the shell as small engined ones have different shell.
You also have to bear in mind that a 1.4 escort can keep up with a gti on the straight! More than a bit annoying if you just spent a bomb building it!
