What tyres....
Disco-Ron:
I know this has probably been done a million times before, but i'm kinda stuck.....
I currently have 235 85 16 insa turbo 'Sahara's' on 7" 8 spokes on my Disco 1, which are slightly less than half worn, i have fitted rangie type arches, and cut out as much metal as i could, i now want bigger..... (as you do) so, i have bought a set of 8x16 Modulars, onto which i was going to fit 265 75 Insa Turbo 'Special Track' tyres.... but, they're hard to get, and very noisey..... so i'm thinking either Anaconda's in 265 75, or maybe the greenway Macho's.... either in 265 75, or maybe even 285 75..... has anyone run with the 285's.... i'm just a little concerned they might be a bit too big.... (is that possible though!!!)
I ought to add, that the truck has a 2" lift already, aswell as numerous other bit's that i've bolted on....
Thanks.
Jim-Willy:
Have Paddocks run out of insa turbo's then? Can't see the Anaconda been any good on the road, in fact they are illegal on your vehicle unless i'm mistaken.......... . Isn't the Macho the same pattern as what you have now?
Disco-Ron:
HI,
I haven't tried Paddocks to be honest, but i've been advised against the Special tracks now anyway due to noise.....
The Anaconda's ARE road legal, but some of the greenway ones aren't, the ones that look like motocross tyres i think....
Yes, the Macho's 'look' like what i have now, but i'd be going wider..... MUCH wider..:)
Another quickie, does anyone know if the 8x16 Modulars are available with more offset.... the ones i have are et20, but i'd like more like et0....!
clbarclay:
From experiance all the more extreme pattern come very noisy. No bodys running anacondas at college at the moment, but there was someone running them last year and they wern't exactly quite. IIRC they were slightly better then grizzly claws, not by much though.
If you want a quiet tyre then i wouldn't advise going any more aggressive than an 80/20 mud terrain pattern like the BFG MT or Cooper SST etc.

Depending on the terrain yes it can be, on wet grass for instance a narrow tyre can work better. Having said that in some circumstances (like bogs) a very wider tyre works much better and in some circumstances (like hard dry dirt) the width of the tyre can make very little difference to its performance.

I presume Jim's implying in terms of their Speed-Rating not being suitable for a Discovery.
Not too sure what it is, but I'll guess at it being 75MPH (which is a 'L', unless I'm mistaken - and I probably are)
Thus not suitable for any 90/110/Defender (either) with a turbo'd engine.
If you have an accident & speed-rated tyres aren't fitted, it can 'open up a whole can of worms'
The tyre must have a higher speed rating than the maximum speed of the vehicle (not be an MOT failure??, but an offence under Constructions & Uses(?), if you have that accident)
Sorry to pass water upon anyones bonfire
