axle chop
birdy:
anyone done a front axle chop.ie cut all mounts and swivel housings of to get the diff flange higher to get front prop at a better angle.[tomcat style]plus move panard rod mount to put axle back in line.
if so what is the max lift you can get /and how many degrees do you need to put on the swivel housings before re welding.
i have a lathe big enough to fit axle in so getting a prep on axle / housings for welding not a problem.will also weld axle on the lathe
any info would be most appreciated

why bother? jut get portals?
Range Rover Blues:
The axle rolls 1 1/2 degree for every inch of lift, so 2" =3Degrees.
You would want to roll the spring mounts back, the diff foreward in relation and then the swivels back.
Eg 4 inch lift, leaving the radius arm mounts alone, you would mave the springs back 6 degrees, the diff forewards 6 degrees to balance the UJ angles then the swivels housings back by 12 degrees, 6 from the lift and 6 from spinning the diff.

Have a look here: http://www.rovertym.com/
It's a US company, but this should give you some other ideas to correct caster and driveline angles. It's the Yank way (or maybe the Bubba way?) to keep pushing a truck higher for bigger meats - these guys regularly run 35" with 5" of suspension lift and 2" body!

thanks for the info
