Range Rover Blues:
Surprisingly, in real life a Mondeo will struggle to better 35 MPG, the diesel Modo is little better. The BMW 5 series Diesle manages about 30 plus if driven carefully but not the auto, oh unless it's the 2.8 Turbo diesel in which case it won't beat 25 mpg.
The bigger Merc coupes weigh in at around 1800kg but can't carry more than 2 people, tow a caravan or cope with bad weather.
None of the above will still be around in 20 years.
So why exactly is my 4x4 the biggest environmental terrorist?
Just a thought, but what are they towing their bandwagon with

I herard on the radio this moring that there is another fule price hike coming, surprise surprise. Just after we reap the benifits of a supermarket price war the chancelor sticks his fat f******hands in my poskets again. The reporter said it will hit the drivers of 4x4. Not drivers of big people carriers then? not drivers of white vans, drivers of Subaru imprezza (god are they thirsty).

I know I drive a thirsty car and TBH I pay for doing so. Managed to burn £10 of fuel going to portsmouth and back last night. I'm also aware that even Bagheera isnt as bad on fuel as the Audi is and yet thats being singled out and I'm not.
Audi used the same engine as mine in thousands of cars, most are still on the road. Admittedly not as bad on fuel as mine but close. I also know people with XJS12's Carrera's, a Senator 3.0 CD, and a Chimera, all of which must be harbingers of ecological armageddon if the 4x4 is an eco terrorist.
I Know we are close to the breaking point of the patience of the UK population, I'm just hoping it snaps soon.
I'm also curious how price changed aimed at 4x4s will work.

It's actually really good news GOOD news for 4x4 drivers if you think about it!
Lets face it- the first owner of a brand new 4x4 (the 'Chelsea Tractor' bunch shall we surmise) will never take the car offroad.
The second owner (a wanna be 'Chelsea Tractor' type or possibly a 'mum to school' type) will never take the car offroad.
It's the THIRD OWNWER and subsequent owners who might actually get the vehicle muddy.
THIRD OWNER THEORY- you read here first!
So what if used values plunge- who cares?
First owner 'Mr Chelsea Tractor' has too much money to care anyway. Second owner 'Mum to school' will be driving an even less environmentaly friendly people carrier and 'Mr Offroader' gets a bargain luxury 4x4 for peanuts.

some people are so clueless- they'll fill up their mondeos for £60, pay £200 road tax then laugh when they hear about taxes on "gas guzzling 4x4's" going up in the news!
