Steering damper coming to the end of it's life?

My Disco had the same problem around 40mph, changed the damper for an old man emu and it's now fine.

Range Rover Blues:
Thew bit about throttle is significant.  I had a rear diff collapse and the early stages it was a bit like this

A UJ might be there all the time, might not but I don't think it would only disapear on overrun.

One nasty thought is something engine related, try it in deifferent gears to try and eliminate which side of the cogs it's occuring.

range rover blues ,
I was getting a vibration at back about 3 weeks ago,4 days later a big clunk from the back and loss of drive.I took rear diff out and found the 4 planetry gears sat in the bottom of the axle casing
Obviously a used diff was fitted, but what can cause this to happen ?
My front diff has been whining for ages but the back one was quiet until it just went bang ! It was full of oil also so not ran dry.

chizy:
Cheers for the suggestions fellas.
I am going to start with the basics.Going to drop the front prop and see what happens. If still there, try the rear etc
If it still does it, then what with the ABS still giving me s**t, anyone want a burnt out soft dash 300 Tdi?????
Still, gotta keep smilin'- it would be boring otherwise

I think bad luck really, usually a used diff is a known quantity, proved out if you like but you may have got one that had a nasty shock and weakend something, or it may have been weak since it was made.  One part failing will quickly take the others with it.  Unless there was a significant event shortly before it failed I'd say there wasn't much you could do to predict it.
