You'll never get the Yorkshire or Northumberland stages back.
The teams are frightened of more than a few hundred competitive miles these days.
I can remember the RAC rally and the Gulf Rally's in the bad old days.
The Gulf was I think three days of rallying.
Thre complete days.No overnight stop.
Now if the drivers are asked to drive in the dark or fog they seem to get upset.
Who remembers Eric Carlson an a two stroke SAAB ??

The Coed y Brenin ones used to be good.
The rot started when the Forestry Commission wanted a ransom per stage mile. The organiser then took the view that if they were paying excessive amounts then they wanted top quality service and facilities.
A lot of the old stages have been signed over to third parties who run mountain bike routes etc on them.

Having spent all of the weekend getting thoroughly soaked and exceptionally muddy playing with the rally cars in the South Wales forests, it doesn't seem to get any better.
Yes I can remember to "good old days" of a 4 day, with 1 overnight halt, RAC Rally, but that will never happen on an international again, or is the event ever likely to move out of Wales that easily. And the reason for that is not anything to do with the MSA in the UK, but with the power of the manufacturers and their hold over the FIA. They wanted to be able to control the amount of damage to cars and to be able to service them easily and more cheaply than having them chased around the country by a couple of vans.
There is also the fact that the cars have now become so complex that centralised servicing with a dedicated regulated power supply and high speed internet connection to download mods is required.
