Engine number help

(1/2) > >>

Rob110:
Hi All

Im going to pick up my new motor tomorrow (110) but i have a question which is bugging me.

The 110 is a g reg 2.5 td but it has had a 300tdi fitted at some time, the current owner is a very nice gunuine bloke who bought the 110 as it is now. the engine number on the log book is still the old 19j engine number as the 300 tdi in it now has had the engine number removed as he said it came out of a written off defender which had all its numbers removed.

I got the 110 off ebay for a good price and it is very nice but i am wondering if the story adds up or should the engine still have its number.

What the guy did say to me which is true, how can i update the log book with the new number when i dont know what it is.

Any advise would be great to make me feel abit better.

cheers

Rob

mudplugger01:
the engine should carry a number or be stamped recon or similar...no id means stolen not recovered..usually...
sorry ...........but you asked ..

Rob110:
That ok, id rather know now, ive give him £200 deposit but id rather lose that than 3k.

when i saw it and it does look really good you get taken away with it, now the night before im to pick it up i have cold feet.

what would you do if you replaced a block on the engine, what would you do about the number then?

mud-club-matty:
the engine number is normaly on the blok somewere  i think or get it and put another tdi in it with a number

It is possible then has come from a stolen recovered car... often the numbers are removed by the theifs.

If you had a reciept for the engine then this would be ok... one of my old Land Rovers just had 'unrecorded' for the engine number - but at least you could prove where the engine was from.

In theory... the engine is still a 2.5 Td so still matches the V5...

You could get hold of another 300Tdi short engine... say second hand, which will then have a engine number.

Or buy a complete engine and sell yours for bits (I might be interested in some of it  ) again means you would have an legit engine number.

If it's running a 300tdi... then in theory it will have a R380 gearbox too... instead of the LT77.. has this got numbers on it??

What chassis is it on... a 300Tdi one or the original one??

What rear axle?? - is it a disc or drum braked??

What front axle??  10 or 24 spline??

 - just wondering how many other parts are 300Tdi spec??
