Ford F250 5.8L auto box dead

Anyone know owt about the big Fords, in particular their auto boxes. Have lost third and fourth. Gearbox is probobly toast but it smells like toast too :)

I suggested fdraining it and checking the fluid filter, anyone any other ideas?

Range Rover Blues:
Not put the wrong auto fluid in it by any chance? IIRC adding a Dextron auto fluid will casue the internals to cook, the oil goes brwon and it smells.  Box will be toast if it's been in long.

Brake bands are toast :( He's looking at a new box. Still he paid peanuts for the truck so hes not THAT upset.

theres a grea company in west sussex that repair american boxes.  or try joing here.  this club have some top american mechanics posting on a regular basis but are based in the UK.  they will have the answrs
