Bad Starter

(1/2) > >>

dawlishstone:
Now that the weaher is getting colder in the mornings, I am having trouble starting my LR90. It has new plugs and starter but I have to leave the plugs to warm for at least a minute and then it takes about 10 to 15 seconds turning over before it fires up. Once it is warm it starts straight away.

I have put this down to the fact that the engine is old (D Reg) but is there anything else I can do to improve the cold starting.

Thanks

I used to pre heat my 2.5diesel turbo for some 25 secs when cold - it would then fire up within a couple of turns.

try that

ferret:
You could invest in an engine pre-heater. Deisel powered.

Sharpshooter:
My 2.5 has done 120,000mls and takes only 10 seconds of heat, and starts after 2 or 3 turns. My mate had a similar problem with his series 3 and it turned out to be a bad earth on the battery. Mind you i do use an OPTIMA YELLOW TOP battery. Well worth the money. 5 years old now and still going strong.

diesel_boy:
sounds like you either need a new set of heater plugs  if that dont work your injectors need cleaning
