tuning a v8 Help please
gtomo2:
Having a go at tuning the v8 on my disco is a 3.5 efi. Now there are two hex adjusteds one in the air flow meter and one by the throtle. So which is the mixture and which is the idle speed as the one by the throtle is fully down and it idles around 800-900 rpm and the one on the air flow meter i can turn till the cows come home and it dont seam to make any differance unless i turn it anti-clockwise then after about 4 mins of turning the engine runs ruff. just want to sort it as when i start up the engine revs to around 2000 rpm which is not good first thing in the morning with on oil been pumped around also its slow at returnint to idle when you rev it

Our 3.9efi RRC had a similar problem with high initial idle speed... Also it deteriated to pulsing... high revs then nearly stalling... like a chav at the traffic lights... Turned out to be [!Expletive Deleted!] lambda sensors.
Can't help with the tuning but if it's changed from normal... it might not be tuning that is the problem. :-k
BTW... your avatar is on my office wall... as a corporate piccie! [-X

gtomo2:
Hope its not that as it looks welded to the downpipe with age. think its the timing thats out as when i set the tdc mark up on the pully the rotor arm is pointing to number 8  . So will have to take pully of and make sure that has not moved again.
and skibum which pic is on your office wall. the disco or tank
Skibum346:
The tank...
Nice big 15" x 20"!
You been mining the web for piccies....?!

Someone has been ar**ing around with tyour car. The hex socket bolt next to the throttle is the base idle adjust screw. You need to disconnect and plug the right angle runbber pipe that goes to the idle speed stepper motor then adjst that scres so that the engine does I think 450rpm but don'e quote me on that, it's very slow though. The idle speed stepper then keep sthe engine at 850rpm.
The screw on the MAF sensor is the mixture and should effect it, though I don't mess with it I let my MOT man do that. If it's having no effect it might be toast.
