Thanks for the offer Mat. I was thinking of a small box or tray where I can throw my tools and they wouldn`t roll about so much.

Would I be right in thinking that a cubby box would give me even less room for my big fat self. . ?

The later model Defenders featured a tray which may suit you.
Have a look on eBlag you may find some for sale, as owners swap for cubby boxes.

Lawnmower:
discovery cubby boxes are a lot smaller. and may still fit.

Some people put radios or CB radio in that position too.

Or put a subwoofer there.

Youll find quite a lot of space between the seats and a cubby (genuine LR or otherwise) its enough to put a 500ml bottly of coke, or 4 down the side. You should be ok as its about as much room between seats and cubby as seat and side of vehicle on other side.
