Does anyone do conversions in Milton keynes or near?
Fuddy as muck:
Hi i'm looking to change the Transit N/A engine fitted in my 1974 series 3 soon. Am i right in thinking that the best engine to go for would be the 200tdi ?. They seem to be going pretty cheap at the moment on ebay. The main thing though is finding someone in or near Milton keynes willing to do the conversion. I'v asked John at Colin Cowleys and he said that they used to but due to the time the conversion takes it means that they lose a ramp for a few days. All i'm looking for is something with more power and obviously a little bit more comfortable to drive than the awfull Tranny engine.

Just remember, you need to be careful with the clutch and gear selection with the TDi in a Series. The standard Series transmission was never intended to have so much torque going through it in normal driving conditions.

I know mate :D Its a shame you cant fit the tdi transmission too without real grief. Does nobody know a place near to MK that does or is willing to do conversions?

i did my own
its not that much work, but only if you know what you are doing.
I'm a bit disappointed in the conversion.
i just cant get it to wheel spin in 4th gear. :D
being serious tho, the 200tdi convo is great. slightly too low geared with standard series 3 diffs, mine tops out at 65mph, but it gets there pretty darn quick.
i can see why people would think the gearbox will giveout, but if you treat it like you should, it will last.
the 200tdi has no more power than a rover v8 or the ford v6, and people run them for years with no problems.
and if it does break the gearbox too much, I'll just turn the turbo boost down a bit.

Maybe try Joe Edwards in Leighton Buzzard.
