I run a small TV production company and am looking at making an instructional DVD aimed at 4x4 drivers of any vehicle/make giving basic information on how to drive off road. I would like to show all examples with a vehicle with no modifications and road tyres and a vehicle that is modified. Also I think it’s important to show examples of short and long wheelbase models on the ‘selecting route’ section.

Here is a rough guide of what I would like to cover:

Off road preparations
Tyres
Modifications
Seat covers/footwear
Recovery

Understanding your vehicle (use selecting off road moads/using gears)
Low ratio modes
General use of gears

Selecting routes
Taking into account ground clearance, entry/exit angles (tow bar etc). Examples of how to deal with common obstacles.

Different Terrain
-   Mud (how to avoid getting stuck/maintain maximum control).
-   Water (judging depth/what to do & ways to avoid getting stuck)
-   Assents/Decents (crests/use of gears/what to do if you get stuck)

Post off road maintenance
-   Cleaning brakes/undercarriage

I am looking for feedback and input, plus a presenter (preferably Shropshire/Midlands based) and people with suitable vehicles to take part in the demonstrations. I am also looking for sites that we can have exclusive access to for filming.

Shame you're so far away mate, as I am an ADI so I'm used to giving instuctions, oh and I have 4 RRC at my disposal.

Even if you couldn't make it down I could do with input on what needs to be shows and how best to do so. Any ideas?

If you are looking to make this to sell or use as an instructional tool for others, I strongly suggest you speak to either one of the Land Rover experience centres or a qualified off-road instructor (maybe Lantra can help you here - http://www.lantra.co.uk/awards3/ )   That way you will know there  is some official structure behind what is being filmed, which will give your DVD some credibility and go some way to protecting you from comeback.

No disrespect intended to anyone here, because most of what you are looking for is well within the knowledge of the experienced members here,  but there are already a number of pubclications of this type available, and they all use qualified & experienced off-road instructors for good reason ;-)

Great idea, especially for beginners like me... :lol:
I would love to do the presenting, however I am not an experienced off road, hey ho never mind. Did some telly work when I was a surveyor , sold a load of Nuclear bunkers and did lots of TV interviews.  :lol: It was real good fun.
