vacume pump
muzzer:
this follows on from my post on oil leaks.
one of the leaks is on the vacuum pump. so I want and priced up a new one £192 pound pluss vat.So my question is this, can you take the front cover of and replace the gasket then rivet the cover back on.as £192 pound is bl**dy expensive
Budgie:
In answer to you first question: I don't know, but I think they are a sealed unit, the only gasket you can change is one between the pump body and the engine block, easy job as it's only 4 bolts that hold the pump in place. :D
As for the price then yes that's bl**dy expensive.
Paddock Spares are selling them for £89.35 + VAT!! Click on "Discovery 1" in the menu, then go to "Special Offers".
If you have look at some of the other parts places then you may find them cheaper still. You're looking for Land Rover part No ERR3539.
Budgie:
I found another: John Craddock's are doing them for £85 +VAT. :D
Type the part number ERR3539 into the Part no Search at the top of the page.
Jimbo:
Paddocks do free delivery on anything ordered online over £50 - and a lot of the time, the bits are original LR, but a lot cheaper than you can get at a stealers !

In answer to the question about removing the cover and re-sealing it - I've done a bit of searching on the same subject on a number of forums (fora?). My pump leaks too, but it's not bad enough for me to spend £100 to make the leak go away!!
It seems that some guys (mainly in Oz) HAVE drilled out the rivets and run a bead of sealer, then re-fitted with small bolts and nylock nuts (in case it needs doing again).
I'm still plucking up the courage to try it on mine.......
