Diesel P38's

v8kenny:
Anyone got one of these or had one ? - thinking about a '95 dse and just wonder how well (or not) they go - are they slow, noisy, mpg etc
Not a huge fan of diesels in general and would much rather have a V8 one but may be persuaded differently !
At least this one's a manual cos I definately couldn't live with an automatic diesel
Comments and thoughts appreciated please

axel:
im getting about 27 mpg ..nice drive..not slow

v8kenny:
Thanks Axel - forgot to ask - are all P38's fitted with the bmw engine ?
This one is nearing 150k but with FSH and only one owner - if looked after do these engines good for this mileage and more ?

Range Rover Blues:
I've heard peole say good and bad about them, sorry if that doesn't help.  Generally they are meant to be economical is a little slugish out of the box, I'd expect better than 27 though unless that's towing.

waveydavey:
I have an Auto;
MPG Varies, heavey local stuff can be down to 25, on a good run I have had up to 33

It's not exactly overpowered but I have no problems; We have a very steep hill outside the house and it pulls up quite happily even when very cold.

What I like is that BMW would only let LR have it massivly downrated so that teh Range Rover didn't compete head on with the BMW. THis means that there is plenty of scope to chip them (mine has been) and the engine is workign way under it's capabilities so if looked after should last pretty well forever.
