hair dryers in the states

Howdy all, swmbo is off to new york in a couple of days (hopefully bringing me back a r/c discovery rock crawler [-o< )    Anyhow, she and her girly shopping buddys are unsure of what to do about hair dryers/straighteners and other electrical things that are "essential" for there trip??    I know you can buy a travel adapter for plug types, but what about the voltage difference??   Many thanks for any help as i need to locate n purchase on today if required??

Some will work ok if they have a 110V Settings but you'll need a step-up transformer. Maplins in North End will have these but make sure you check the power handling capacity, some hairdriers are up in the Kw range!

If your staying in a hotel or an appartment its worth a call to check if they have them in the rooms as most hotels and apartments do in the states.

US is 110V 60Hz, so you will need to check the label on the appliance.  Most modern electronics (phone chargers etc) will cope, but something like a hairdryer will be switchable, or just won't work.

Anything like that unless it's 'travel' you can forget it.

Don't buy anything; if they are ina  hotel they will have it anyway; if not tell them to go to Target or somewhere similar and buy it there. It will cost less thana  110v at home and be a lot more powerful.

When are they in? We are in New York on 24 October just opposite the statue & Governers Island.
