The ones I use are on the military under seat tank filling type, but yes they do come on the civvy ones too, unless someone has threw it out

I'm quite worried of doing that everytime I'm at the petrol station!

I have used it a number of times to fill from the jerry can, but as the jerry is moulting its paint inside the sieve gets blocked, I guess at least its doing its job well.

Well the one on mine is held on by a small chain, so no chance of losing it easily.  :D

Wrap a piece of muslin cloth over the can neck, it will collect most of the bits :wink:
