There was a guy at the L2B with a Defender 50th LE, with a supercharged petrol engine, I think he said it was 4.2L (it wasn't the standard 3.9 by a long stretch).  (ie very different from a 300tdi, but it went like a rocket.)

He had a water vapour injector system, but from what he said it sounded very finicky.  It had worked at one point but then stopped again.

Interesting idea, though.
