german sat nav accident

DarrenG:
There are two issues here, the first being that SatNav is a driver 'AID' and not an autopilot so common sense is assumed, the second is that the map data has improved a great deal in the last three years.  if you haven't updated the map then you can't really blame the system if it leads you astray!

Three years ago it was cutting edge and the map data was variable in the extreme with many routing errors which resulted in Turn Right on the M25 as you approached the M4 and other quirks.  The data quality whilst far from perfect is very much better now.

I tend to programme mine up and ignore it till I get close to a new destination... then pay attention to it AND the road signs!

Anyone know how to get memory map loaded on a Windows Mobile phone with satnav (Copilot)?

What kind? If it's a Windows Smartphone then you can't, if it's a PocketPC Phone Edition then just dock the phone and load MM via ActiveStink?

I stick to a map.. In years to come people wont have a clue as to regional geography...  everything will be in their sat navs and when the thing breaks down they just wont have a clue where they are or where to go... a bit like mobile phones..once we knew most numbers ...now we put the numbers straight into the phone and don't bother to remember them...

or am I just a luddite ?
