A frame ball joint

(1/1)

Snooky:
Any advice on replacing one? Easy or not?
Looks easy enough but guess I could be wrong  :?

paul_humphreys:
You will need a press to get the old one out and the new one in. Its not a bad job as long as the bolts are not sized in.

If you are going to change it, try one of THESE

I did mine in a saturday afternoon, but that was using a mates press to remove old and fit new.  Check the bushes on the other end of the A frame too as they also wear and if the ball joint has gone they probably have too.  You need a press for them too.  If you can't get the ball joint out of it's taper we found a small scissor jack between chassis and a frame and some bashing on the ball joint with a big hammer worked.

It transformed the motor doing it though, clunks all gone, cornered better and drove in a straight line.  Also replaced tie rod bushes to remove all of the rear wheel steer.

handed mine over to mechanic next door... using heat, bolts shearing off, and general awkwardness wasnt something i wanted in my weekend! took him a few hours to do with all the equiptment!

my advice.. pay someone stupid enough to do it for ya!

??
Not that hard really. The britpart poly bushes push into the A arms so easy there and ball joint is easy enough too with small press or pipe on vice handle !
