I've changed the rad in loads of discos (200/300s) and never taken the fan off yet.

If you unbolt the shroud and move it back towards the engine (turning it through 90 degrees), there's room to get the rad out.

Jake:
I took mine out because Mr Haynes said i should as to not damage the new one.
Worked for me and it only took 2 secs to remove the fan.
Each to their own.
