Worth giving the engine a flush out on the first change, run a 1000 miles then check it out for leaks etc, change again for decent oil and away you go

When changing oil i put duckhams or similar in, then when topping up use cheap mainly with expensive occasionally ... that way u still have all the additives in but it isnt so painful on the wallet!

I work in the lubricants and additives side of the motor trade, and without doubt you get what you pay for - the same with fuel.
The specialist suppliers - Shell, castrol, mobil et al, put additional and more 'refined' additives packages into their oils and fuels - the supermarkets and cheaper brands you less well refined oils/fuels with lesser or no additives packages.
My personal recommendation would be to use better - i.e-branded fuels and oils.
When changing the oil add an engine flush to the old oil let it run up to a decent temp - pref take it for a 5-8 mile run, then drop the old oil and refill. Also from time to time add a fuel clean/additive.
The most technologically advanced Engine Flushes and Fuel Treatments on the market are sold by 'Forte', they are detergent based not solvent based - so more enviromentally friendly.
The Flush is used and recommended by more Manufacturers and dealer groups than any other, even though they are one of the most expensive.
The Fuel Treatments are also detergent based so do not combust like solvent based products and therefore clean areas after combustion - outlet valves, EGR's, Lambda sensors, etc, etc.
The only problem is that they are only sold to the trade - however a group such as forum users/club members could arrange a deal.
As you might guess, I sell Forte products but they are the best on the market, hence why I sell them.

looks like fitting a replacement over the weekend, and also refitting the air filter to turbo pipe, as this is looking a little 'tired'
Am going to try and clean the housing out as well.and do the diesel and oil filters too!
also adjusted the throttle cable as well - makes a hell of a difference, can hear the turbo whistle now!
Regarding oil, shall I throw supermarkets own in, or get something a little more upmarket?#
