I am about to attempt my 1st engine replacement on a range rover classic, i have done smaller engines in the past but up till now nothing over 1.6L

I have a Haynes manual which lists the removal and replacement as easy/ish

Is there anything (short of blood sweat and tears) which you guys have found in the past i need to look out for whilst undergoing this task?
(Such as certain tips, tools needed etc?)

HBOL Haynes Book Of Lies rarely tells it as it really is.
If you've done smaller engines then your only real concern would be the weight of the engine and/or gearbox and transfer box.
They need quality lifting gear if you want to keep your fingers etc.

Removing engines on most Land Rovers is pretty straight forward  :roll:

First remove bonnet for better access & so you can see what your doing,  disconnect battery, remove air filter , drain coolant , remove hoses , remove radiator (so it doesn't get damaged ) , disconnect fuel lines , disconnect wiring/harness , remove PAS pump, disconnect exhaust downpipe.
Good tip this, for better access to bell housing bolts (Disco, RR) remove engine mountings first and drop engine down onto chassis.
Also when refitting engine support gearbox with trolley jack to stop it moving around too much. Put gearbox in gear and in diff lock. Then turn engine to line up clutch & gearbox shaft splines.

Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40

Thanks for the advise so far lads,

Got most done, just the dropping of the engine mounts and engine to gearbox to do tomorrow

so far everything has gone well

had to also take off the bullbars, bumper to get the engine crane in

Engine all out now, it went rather easy, apart from the odd broken exhaust manifold to exhaust stud,

Any idea of the thread type for these so that i can start drilling and tapping.

A Big thanks to "PAS" (Paul Stephens) for the tips and dropping off a new engine.
