Missing front prop
4x4xFlowers:
I had a call tonight from a mate whos disco's front UJ decided to let go. I have disconnected the front prop all together for him and sent him home in difflock. How long should i leave him with it disconected ? (he wont do anything unless prodded) Will it put a lot of stain on the transfer box?
cheers

Haven't got a clue!
Personally though I'd like to drive on it for as little as possible before replacing the UJ/prop - its more of an emergency get you home sort of thing - like they say when we get 2mm of snow - only make your journey if it is really necessary
And erm (tongue in cheek) the stain should clean off the transfer box shouldn't it?! :P
One more thing - try and get the replacement UJ with the built in grease nipple

It won't do the transmission much good, and the handling will be a bit sloppy, but at least the economy will go up :D
A friend of mine drove his for a few months like this, before he fitted a new prop, but I wouldn't recommend it. It didn't seem to do his any harm, but it can't be ideal.

Got to agree with David.
The steering gets pretty awful.

as long as its not driven at too high a speed as there will be misaligned intertia on the centre box cos drive is only going one way.
get prop fixed asap
