Surely the drop-off is the same with any kind of bulb, assuming roughly similar light colour. Different types of light don't suddenly attenuate at different rates. Light's the same whatever the source, so if you get two bulbs with the same lux output over the same angle at 1m, they're going to have the same relative output at 2m and 5m etc.

Thats correct, light is subject to the inverse square law (did I just say that?). What this means that at double the distance from source light travels, you only get 1/4 of the intensity!
I knew that photographic course would come in handy elsewhere!
