Richard Hammond?
Evilgoat:
--- Quote from: "datalas" ---From what I can tell he was suffering from a blood clot on the brain which is the "significant brain injury" they were refering to, this was causing pressure on the brain which was potentially life threatening, they relieved the pressure and he's making a "good" recovery (according to the news)
What this actually entails is anyones guess, the brain is remarkably resiliant to damage, and can recover from a hell of a lot (if it was designed, then nice work that man)

Think of a wood borer bit and a black and deckker. And no, I'm not kidding :)
People have taken a lot worse injuries including loss of a significant volume of it, and still been able to carry on business as usual.

There are people living out there with only half a brain, having had one side removed they have learned to use just the one side to control both sides of the body (left side of the brain controls movement on the right side of the body and vice versa). Their language and memory was mostly unaffected too, amazing design. Here is one example http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1590/is_1998_Nov_16/ai_53349823
