TD5 reliability

(1/2) > >>

mike142sl:
I'm considering selling the RR for a TD5 but a colleague last night said they are plagued with reliability problems?.

Must admit it's the first I'd heard, but can anyone else confirm or otherwise this claim.

Paul:
Had mine for just over two years now...

Only problem I've had was with the starter motor.

Very happy with mine. :D

barmiebrumie:
Had mine until some scum stole it mon night  ,

wifey got a 90 TD5 40k on the clock and has not missed a beat as yet,  In our experience 100% reliable to date :)

Just to balance the view!

My Td5 Disco is on a 51 plate and has 62600 miles on the clock.  I have had it for 2 years, in that time I have had replaced:

Gearbox - link between 5th and reverse went.
New Turbo Hoses - Blew
New Engine - Suspect that oil pump fell off - known fault
New Turbo - due to the above
New Alternator - Main dealer took 3 attempts to find fault
2 new batteries - one the terminal corroded/craced the second whilst they were looking for the alternator fault
Aircon pipe replaced

I have had the clutch replaced - earlier, but as they had the engine out at the time t made sense
The suspension bushes done
Brakes  and new tyres but I think that this was at about the right sort of time.

I'm sure there have been some other minor bit's and bob's.

It's due it's MoT on Monday so I'll add anything else that needs doing!

On the plus side there is not much else that could go wrong - touching an awful lot of wood right about now!

Still I do like it and now I've put Colway A/T's on it feels tougher!
