Rear dif flange removal?

<< < (2/3) > >>

Range Rover Blues:
Put a long bolt into that threaded hole with a nut on it (you don't want the bolt turning in the thread as this increases the chances of it stripping) a thick washer and a length of exhaust pipe/scaffold pipe etc.  Heat the 3 legged bit with a blowtorch, apply percussive pressure to it's outside with LR special tool #1 (BF hammer) and turn the nut on the long bolt to pull it out.

--- Quote from: "discodan" ---In the centre of the 3 leg flange there should be a threaded hole. Wind a bolt into this to draw the cover off. It is interference fit & if it hasn't been off for some time it will strip the threads here and you will need another  method.

Under this you will find the flange retaining nut.

Good luck, Dan

OK tried this on Saturday as I guessed it might work, however the M8 bolt got most of the way in and sheared without warning, so I will try heat and a BFH!

You got the flange kit OK then, was it the right part number?

I got the part from MM4x4, got here very quick too, but until I get the old flange off I wont know for sure if its the right one!

The part number has also been changed apparently!

Range Rover Blues:
I didn't think the thread went right through, that'sa why the special tool is an external puller.

Anyway, as you are changing the flange now I'd suggest you try cutting the old one very carefully until the spigot can be pulled out.

snezza69:
I have got a slide hammer and a blow torch to give it a bash tonight.  Will keep you informed!
