Good and bad points of Rangie V8

Should be picking one up in a few weeks and was wondering what people have to say about them really.

I know it thirsty but its worth it for the noise  :D  :D

It has been highered 2" and a 2" body lift. snorkel, 33" muds

Electrics are a nightmare
Floorpan will be rotten as will the tailgate upper and lower
Suspension and body mountings will be Knackered
Swivel seals leak
Engine, gearbox,both axels and transfer box leak oil
Hates water

If its not doing any of the above It will be soon

I have a hammock in my garage but soon I am going to get the drive resurfaced (with a mattress)

I love mine to bits (and lots of them) and wouldn't part with it for the world
and as you say the best part is starting it up and listen to the burble or going through an underpass and flooring it MINT worth every penny

And that's from a man who has just spent 3 days replacing the transfer box that blew on the first day of the holiday (one of the days was also my birthday)

PS get a gas conversion

lpg conversion

other than fuel consumption theyre great...one of mine is my daily motor and the other will soon be an offroading toy!...in the meantime my daily has proved a fantastic offroad vehicle as well!

Go LPG, I fitted a multi point with a spare wheel tank (the most expensive) for £1250 and the LSE goes like a stabbed rat, it's awesome.

Put it like this, I was towing an RS Turbo on the BJ trailer up the motorway when some d**k in a white van cut me up, he's lost speed on a hill and hadn't realised I was still doing 60, so when he got out of the way I hit the loud pedal and off we went, guy looked shocked.  By the time the trailer had passed him I was up from 50 to about..... well shal we say a little too fast.  Yes it's thirsty but now you can't tell it's on gas, so I don't care it's still cheap to run.

LPG is definatly on the cards and luckily know a mate in the trade :)

electrics aint too hard t sort out I have heard though few waterproofing parts etc....

bodywork you gotta expect to get rusty if its being used off road so that's not a major problem.

Thanks guys hope to be getting it in 2 weeks but driving to kent from bristol with a trailoer in my hilux to go pick a car up then exchange th hilux for the rangie and tow a car back with the rangie.

That's one hell of a day trip then, hope the V8 is reliable that far from home.

Well the rangie has never let him down but not sure of how much he has driven it.  :o  :o

Will be a test to see how reliable it is.

Our club did a steam show at the weekend and we had some seriously big ramps there; at the end of the day we had a twist off competition; involved were everything from 90s,110s,series with and without prabolics, discos with and without air suspension; how sick were they all when my 2" lifted range rover vogue se beat them all; and the second place was 6 inches behind me;
 NOW THAT TO MY MIND IS A GOOD POINT!!!!!

Oh yeah and the one im getting has dislocation cones. What exactly do they do?

Is it where the axle basically swivels in the middle???

one of my mates got some pics; when I have a copy I'll post it.
Dislocation cones are there so that if the axle drops too far and the spring pops out its housing they feed it back into it as the axle moves back to its normal position. I had a problem with mine popping out at full articulation and without them is rarely seated properly again. Rather than pay £40+ for some though I just added a couple of U bolts to stop them popping out at the top. Works great and was only £3 the pair.   :D

Ho, hum....., you just wait until it rips the retaining clamps out from the bottom of the spring, slides over and rips your brake hose off and then gets jammed between the wheel and axle......., makes the £40 look damm good, don't it  :!:  :!:

yup, no probs here either and did the same thing on a previous 90 and disco!
