Ah, so it was mounting failure rather tnan the shoker itself.

glaggs:
Not realy sure what gave way first, the radius arm was bent as well and had to be replaced. I think I did it hitting a tree root on a rutted climb, the only violent stop of the day. Drove round for another hour or so and didn't notice a problem til we hit the motorway heading for home and started to feell seasick with the wallowing. Still made it home before we relised the full damage!
