Sloppy Transmission/Drivetrain

(1/3) > >>

smo:
My transmission/drivetrain seems to have a lot of slack/slop in it. Under "normal" road driving its not really a problem, bit it can cause unwanted jerking and lurching when offroad, particually when trying to control speed and use engine braking (low 1st) for descending a lane/course over rocks etc.

Is there any way of decreasing it, and is there an accepted ammount of slack?

davidlandy:
as well as bushes (important) - look for wear in the UJs, drive members, half shaft splines, CVs, the diffs, transfer and gearbox.

or get used to it!  I have!

The vehicle is 18months old and done 16K - it shouldnt have wear that causes these problems!

AbyssDJ:
it shouldnt, but its a land rover ;) when we replaced our halfshaft not long back it took up a LOT of play and threw it out the window... not saying thats the problem, but it made a lot more difference than i expected.

check all the joints as above

smo:
Well i expect some play, but its really bad at the moment!!
