Alternator

Has anyone replaced the diode pack on the alternator from a 300 TDI Disco? Does it involve heavyweight soldering?

I had one pack up a couple of years ago and replaced the alternator but damn it's going again so this time let's just change what's bust.

I am pretty sure my local factors will get the parts.

Thanks

Mike

MTyrrell:
I have done a 200TDi alternator, actually it was off a ford tractor that happened to have the same Lucas alternator as land rover use on the 200's.
If they fit the same Lucas unit to the 300TDi then the diode pack and brushes come as one sealed unit.

It’s just a matter of disconnecting the cable, removing two bolts on the diode pack and the unit should pull out.
Then the reverse for fitting the new unit. Can be done on the vehicle.

I don't think that they are teh same but that's very encouraging news. My local independent insisted that you couldn't repair them so we replaced. Later the local factor said you must eb able to as I supply the parts!

I just want to know how tough it is and you've been encouraging!

Xtremeteam:
the 200 & 300 alternator is tottally different,

first of the 200 is 65A output the 300 is 100A output,the 200 runs a v belt

300 runs poly V

MTyrrell:
Sorry didn't realise they were completely different. Just in case it's any help this is the bit I replaced on the 200TDi type alternator.
