Fitting Help

Hello Folks

Ive just acquired a Full wrap around bull bar, mounting plate and 2 brackets off an '89 SWB Vitara.  I had a go at fitting it onto my '92 LWB vitara but couldnt seem to mount the mounting bracket anywhere near where the actual bar mounting section.  

Is there a conversion plate i need or am i just doing it wrong?

I can supply photos if needed but im guessing this is gonna be one tof those nooby errors.  Thanks in advance guys.
