Manda:
Hi all.

I'm very new to the landy thing. (I have a Jeep)

My Hubby (Father-in-law in pic   ) bought a lightweight last night. I am trying to sort some insurance but having real strife.

What I need from you good people is some help with identifying it.

The confusion seems to stem from the fact that it's ex-mod. The green slip from the log book says

"Make: Land Rover
date of registration 01 12 1978 (DECL/D MANUF 1971)
Wheelplan: 2-AXLE-RIGID BODY
Taxation class: HISTORIC VEHICLE"

The reg is *** ***T

Any clues to telling me what it is?

Any help would be much appreciated.

ChrisW:
Hi Manda,
I believe it is a series 3 88" short wheel base airportable.
Who are you speaking to for insurance? This thread may give you some pointers.

Typically, Adrian Flux seem to be fairly competitive especially if it is a limited mileage classic vehicle policy.
Don't forget to ask for a discount for being a mud-club member

Also, see the local pub meets section for the West Mids meet - Farmer Johns in Aldridge

Rich_P:
It isn't a Series 3 Air Portable (aka, Lightweight).

It's a 88-inch (also known as short wheel base) Series 2A Air Protable (often refered to as a Lightweight instead of Air Portable).

ChrisW:
Missed that bit - was looking at the demob date   I suppose the headlights should have given it away!

On that basis make sure it is registered with the DVLA as an historic vehicle for the free tax
