anyone tried this?

(1/1)

Ollie:
There is some dreadded rot appeared at the top of the bulkhead
I need to remove the 'capping' that secures the window frame to the bulhead, has anyone tried this :?:

I don't want it to turn into a nightmare, just need to address the rot :D

Cheers
Ollie

Litch:
The 'capping that secures the window-frame to the bulkhead'?

Not certain what you mean, you aren't referring to the hinges (or dummy hinges) are you?. The windscreen-frame is secured to the roof by a line of bolts and to the bulkhead by the hinges, shouldn't be anything else holding it on. The hinges are unbolted from inside.

The bulkhead top-rail is a very common rot-spot, if it has gone (you will get an excelent view wth the frame off) then you have to consider if you want to save the bulkhead or go for a replacement because let me tell you now, for all the rot you can see it will be a lot worse inside where you can't see it. Be brutal, have a really good poke around and while you are at it look at the top of the pillars as well.

One more thing, the screen is also secured to the hard top with some heavy duty mastik.

Breaking the seal on this can be a real pain. With the screen fixings undone, run a long stanley blade along the join between hardtop and screen frame. Eventually it'll give.

Best of luck.

That's exactly what I'm referring to:-)
Are they dummy hinges? Or do they hold captive bolts for the nuts found on the other side of the bulkhead :?:

I thought I'd bought a good condition Landy, now, I'm not so sure
