which fuel ?

(1/2) > >>

kevinf:
a question thats been asked and debaited many times

in a effort to reduce running costs and hearing many tales about fuel additives, bio diesel(opposed to the normal stuff available at tesco's) and
vegetable oil ie rape seed oil, what are your thoughts ie suitable mix quantities, where do you get the bio diesel from etc,and are they suitable for the newer engines eg td5

cheers kevin

Xtremeteam:
dont put either boi fuel or veg oil in a TD4 or TD5 as the pumps dont like it

any late diesel engines will die nastily
a few more details of what you're running would be helpful  :?

Its typical that LR make a system with a picky pump, as 99% of other modern cars will run on biofuel without problems, and you can run a lot of older engines on much higher mixes, right up to straight veg oil!

Your best bet is to try an additive like pure acetone in tiny concentrations (150ml per tank), it makes a cleaner burn and has been proven to improve economy by upto 20% in some engines.

fudge:
The programme within Mercedes at the moment is designed to allow new Euro 4 compliant engines run on a 5% mix...... IMHO it would b a waste of time effort and money to mix just 5% Bio..... more than that and proven = no warranty.... but the good news is that they have a proactive approach to Bio!
