Front Spots

I had the same problem sorting Emily's spot out on her SJ. At the moment they are controlled by an independant switch in the cab, but legally they should be slaved to the main beam.

I think the problem is that the lamps are switched on the earth side, instead of the live side, so if you pick up off the back of the lamp it will always switch the spots on.

The solution - which I haven't got round to trying yet - is to find the right wire in the wiring loom, as it comes off the switch.

It's certainly the first thing to try, I just haven't tried it yet!

Well if you have any luck please let us know.  Havent done much about mine yet as ive been to busy , i kinda begrudge paying to have them done when i could do it myself (withthe correct knowledge of course)

On a side note, you mentioned legally they need to be wired to the main beam, if i do end up putting them on a seperate switch would that fail an mot?

Errr,
just a thought a lot jap vehicles actually use negative feeds, my Lite Ace had that for the horn, permanent live and the horn push/switch ran through a negative feed, made it interesting when wiring in a relay  :?

Shouldn't be a problem. Switch the relay with a negative and with a permanent live to the relay then it'll pull the relay which would connect the two negatives carrying the current.
Just got to have lateral thinking :)

Si,

I'm not sure whether the scope of an MOT would include "Let's press this button and see if some illegal lights come on", however, prudence would suggest removal of the fuse for the driving lights for MOT.

The driving lights on my Pajero work properly, but have 100w bulbs in which are not legal for road use, so I obviously have the fuse removed at all times when on the road, so it won't be present for MOT....

That's my story and I'm sticking to it, anyway...

It might be a while 'til I get round to looking at Em's lights though, as she rolled the 'Zuk at the weekend and things like new windscreen and side window will get slightly higher priority than minor wiring irregularities!
