Overfinch info please - got by the Ebay red mist :)
« on: July 15, 2006, 18:15:52 »
Hi all,

I just had a mad moment on Ebay and bought a 1990 Overfinch Classic Range Rover  :D  :D  :D .

Any info about these would be appreciated, good and bad. I was tempted by the 5.7 V8  8)  and don't know too much about these conversions.

Have I done a good thing  :)  or a bad thing   :( .....Please discuss....
Rob.

No, you fool, what have you done.

Prepare yourself for a life of tribulations.

I'll take it off your hands for a small fee, and save you the hassle of owning this thing.

Or more seriously, as long as the basic car is in reasonable condition I recon you've got something that will be really satisfying, but I suspect not exactly economical.

Overfinch have been in the land rover modifying game for ages. There was a buying item in one of the mags recently, but about P38A IIRC. I think that overfinch are helpful for less easy to find spares.

http://www.overfinch.com/

Enjoy your new toy.

Regards

Wolfie

I guess I'll find that out on Monday

 - I'm hoping I can still do it on a 'classic' policy with a mileage restriction like the Land Rover was ('hope' being the operative word!)

Overfinch make some Extreme Land Rovers, very nice cars.

Wouldn't mind an OF P38A myself one day  8)

I think that was a serious question.

Overfinch made sooped up RR for road use only (bigger engine lowered suspension big tyres etc etc.)  and pretty interiors and rich people paid lots of money for them.

Picked up the Overfinch today - wow is it quick!....and corners like it's on rails - a whole new experience for a Range Rover  :D  :D

Insurance was £175, with a 5000 mile restriction (& I doubt I could afford the petrol to do half that).

Attached a couple of quick photos on the drive.

Absolutely     - I was wondering how it would look with a nice ARB winch bumper as well :)

...when I talked about 'offroading' to the guy I bought it off, he almost  went white with the very idea - I didn't even dare mention the word 'bobtail'

Looks well nice

Put it on LPG and half your fuel costs.  You might get into double (MPG) figures

Woulda thought the suspension was all tied down so maybe best left on the road rather than mud plugging.

Sure... photos in my gallery have been updated  :)

btw....mud plugging comments were seriously tongue in cheek, I doubt it will go futher than a grassy field....for now

Thanks for all the nice comments...but I'd still like to know more about the modifications that Overfinch do, other than the obvious change of engine. They clearly modify the steering and suspension (I can see the twin shocks on the rear), but I haven't had a chance to poke about much (too damned hot).

Basically it depends what the customer ordered from overfinch. its all about fast road performance for most of them.

A couple of years ago Top gear had a p38 that had been touched by overfinch and the ultimate demonstration was out accelerating a focus.......whilst towing a trailer carrying another focus :)

Glad to hear that, the Overfinch will become one of the more collectable calssics in future years and that one looks nice.  I like the Brooklands kit. if yo ever want to sell it......

Now I wonder if it's faster than my LSE, the chevy engine is big but not very efficient, some of them came from Corvettes, some from panel vans

I bet it's got some serious engine mounts though

...that would be the Corvette then

Apparently the engine is based on the Chevy ZZ4 350, 355 Horsepower @ 5,250 RPM, 405 ft/lbs torque @ 3500 RPM ....mmm  :D  :D
