How to get to great yarmouth

<< < (2/3) > >>

strapping young lad:
yeh i know bout pooter-based mapping but i need an answer from someone who has either done some or all of this trip and tell me what its like (delays/speed/traffic) and time it would take

Thrasher:
See above ^

You don't really think that's not based on actual experience do you? the A11 is the road to hell....

bezzabsa:
did a similar run on monday, a14/m6 junction usually has queues, a14 by m11 normally bad too..few road works out towards norwich, apart from that a14 is the most direct route, total about 170 ish miles, about 3-4hours.

Lord Shagg-Pyle:
from experience of having lived and worked the area of the Eastern flat lands for many a year, avoid Great Yarmouth!
Seriously though, if I'm right in thinking from Warwick, head for the M6, go for the A14, turn left at Thrapston to Peterborough, pick up the A47 and stay on that all the way to Gret Yarmuff (local pronunciation). This will keep you well clear of the hell on earth that is           (dramatic pause) The All from Barton Mills to Thetford!
Where is she going for her 'Get Together'? Avoid the following places:
The Garibaldi (last time I saw it it was painted Pink, and it is a place where your shoes stick to the floor)
Tiffanys, if it is still there (Club still stuck in the 70's)
Apart from that, the rest of the places are OKish.
If they want a better night out to 'Get Together', get a taxi into Norwich (Naridge, if spoken in local dialect), and go for the clubs/pubs in Tombland or Prince of Wales Rd.
Hope it helps
Cheers

V8MoneyPit:
Night life??? In Narfork???     Nothing personally against Great Yarmouth, but I'm with LS-P on this one!

The A11 is only bad if you pick the wrong time of day. Or want to travel on a bank holiday weekend. I used to run up and down to Stansted on a regular basis and very rarely had any problem. But I used to do the run on a Friday or Sunday late evening after the traffic died down.

The other bad part can be the A47 east of Norwich.... er, sorry... Naridge! But, again, it's only a problem at the wrong time...... or if some dipstick decides to run into someone else.
