Who says its a pig of a job to do!!??
Did mine in 1 hour, including 30mins to replace the ball joint.
Remove the lock pin and undo the castlated nut from the ball joint. Knock the steering arm off the ball joint. Knock the lock tab washer flat from the nut on the drop arm, leaving the washer raised against the drop arm itself. Undo the nut - you'll need big adjustable spanners/ a plumbers wrench for this. The drop arm fits onto a splined conical bit that comes out of the steering box, so you'll need to knock the drop arm on the arm itself with a lump of wood. This should wiggle the arm itself enough break the seal with the splined conical thingy. Then it just drops off.
Easy peasy.
Any probs give me a shout.
