I've been looking around for jobs in the engineering design industry and recently applied for a couple of jobs - got one, but turned it down in favour of my chances with the other more promising job - 2 weeks after my interview and many promising and encouraging "noises" from the company later and i get a letter saying i'm unsuccessful.

To say i'm gutted would be an understatement. Guess its back to scouring the job paper for anything that pays a wage  :(

Like most things - if it doesn't seem/feel right, then it probably isn't.

It's a shame that you missed out on the job you wanted, but it's possibly just as well that you didn't go for the one you turned down.

Good luck for finding the "right" job :)

I was once offered a job verbally, with a start date, went on holiday on the strength of getting the money, came back, chased the written offer, and the Friday before I was due to start they said they'd changed their minds.

Looking back I should have probably pursued them legally on the basis of a verbal contract, but I made do with cursing them to hell.

smo:
Harsh! They hadnt made any formal verbal offer, just lots of wow your just right and we'll sort this and that for you blah blah

Tiny Tim:
Tough luck mate

But maybe an indicator of how they treat staff day to day.

Good luck with the search
