5 months strip to chassis rebuild
Lucy1978:
What's the problem with the gearbox?
CanIBeFrank:
It came from a field find, not moved for about 5-10 years at a guess.
Jumps out of 4th, low range sounds like its got a rabid tiger trying to get out, reacon it may last a couple of weeks ;) yet though but wouldn't bet on it.
Lucy1978:
jumping out of 4th sounds like a primary pinion bearing or the detent springs on the syncro hub, both easy jobs, Low range could be the bearings on the intermediate shaft and or worn thrust washers, both easy to change too.
CanIBeFrank:
ps its a Series 2 gbox should have said, still an easy job? If so wheres the best place for the parts?
Lucy1978:
I got my parts from Craddocks, there's some pics of my gearbox build here
The series 2 box is a little different as it won't have syncros on 1st and second and it's got some sqare cut gears as opposed to skew. Other that and some different sized shafts it's the same idea.
The primary pinion bearing is the same right through from a series 1 to a series 3, as is the 3rd/4th syncro hub assembly. I suspect, though I'm not certain, that the transfer box has changed very little between series 2 and 3 boxes as well.
P.S. I forgot to say, it's a tidy looking truck you've got there 8)
