bright, brighter, brighter still!
Ollie:
The main lights on my 110 appear to have three settings, (I'm only referring to the front of the vehicle);
1-Select the first setting on the light stick, the side lights come on, as does the main headlight.
2-Select the second setting on the light stick, side lights stay on, the main headlight gets brighter.
3-Select main beam, main headlights get brighter still, side lights of course stay on.
4- turn off the ignition, side lights remain on, main headlights go off.
I thought the main bulb only has two filaments, one for dip, the other for main beam.
How is it I appear to have three settings :(stoopid):

It's right, nothing to worry about :D
Litch:
It's called dim-dip and I think I am correct in saying it has been deleted from new vehicles now?
It uses a reduced voltage to illuminate the dip-filement when the side-lamps are on. They are brigher than normal sidelights but are of insufficient intensity to meet the requierments of UK legislation governing the use of sidelights...................... Need I go on?
It's all covered in the owners handbook.

Yep, found it in the owners hand book, dim-dip eh, only in a Land Rover
Please, go on, how is it achieved, ie, how do LR reduce the voltage :?:
Ollie
Range Rover Blues:
Different cars do it different ways, Fords had it around 1986 on wards, my Cavalier should have had it but didn't in 1993. It came and went.
Usualy some sort of chopper circuit giving a waveform or pulsing. On the Range Rover it sets of the radar detector
Out of interest running Halogen bulbs on reduced voltage DRASTICALLY reduces their lifespan
