Merc engine I believe, as used in most Korean motors.

Seemed to get some good reviews when it was first launched as a vehicle nearer to older Nissan Patrols etc, rather than the more modern more road biased motors. I ve owned hyundai cars in the past, and even took a Sonanta saloon down a couple of lanes in devon & surrey. Was generally very reliable and comfortable if not overly refined (gearing was very low meaning a comfortable cruise speed had to be 55 rather than 70)
